No matter what you might think of Barack Obama, his campaign sure had some kick-ass design. From the sunrise "O" logo to the choice of Gotham for typography, there was some slick work created. Perhaps one of the most iconic works from the Obama campaign is Shepard Fairey's "Progress" (later "Hope") poster. In homage to both Obama and Fairey, I wanted to make an anime version. The simple use of colors reminded me of the Big O soundtrack art. And hey, it's a different Big "O". I used a scan of DVD 2's cover because it had the mecha's face at a better angle (at least when flipped horizontally) and basically just redrew it in the style of Fairey's poster, using his colors. It's a good thing the Big O is purple and red, not far off from blue and red. Instead of the sunrise "O" logo, I used Roger's glowing blue wrist-watch, which was circular and "O"-ish enough.
At first I was going to call this wallpaper "Big Hope" but remembered that Fairey is part of Obey Giant... so you'd better Obey a Giant Robot, if it comes knocking at your door.
This made me wonder how Roger Smith might be as a politician. Obviously he's got the negotiating skills... but he seems to subscribe more to Roosevelt's Big Stick ideology... and with a mecha like Big O, he's got a very Big Stick indeed.
