I decided to decompose this wallpaper to show how the different elements of the background come together to make a final image.

  1. The first element was the floor and staircase, and what made it work was the use of perspective distortion on the marble pattern, as well as the subtle glow and shadow on the stairs to highlight each step.
  2. The next element are the columns, which is really one column duplicated several times with variations to each so they don't look entirely uniform.
  3. Next is the background wall, which uses the same marble texture as the floor but without the perspective distort.
  4. Of course, the most important part is the character placement!
  5. Only after the addition of shadows does the image truely come to life, because they add the proper perspectives and lighting.
  6. The devil's in the details - but that's what makes a wallpaper rich and lively.
  7. As you can see, I greatly enhanced the saturation in the final wallpaper, and the use of the waves adds just a little more perspective and detail for the eye to enjoy.
