This wallpaper was decomposed to show how a vector image comes together, as well as how disparate elements in a background can be meshed.

  1. The sky background. Since the main color theme was purple, I used a dusk palette, with the deep purple fading to peach. A few cloud brushes give some depth to the gradient, and some sparse stars hint that it's almost night time.
  2. I vectored some bare, spindly trees to create a desolate forest background. They're set at different levels of opacity to create depth as they fade into the distance. There is some overlap at the bottom of the image which the foreground will obscure.
  3. Saihi and her crystal are vectored. The image of Saihi is offset in each crystal facet. Some purple lighting effects add to the glowing crystal.
  4. Hayate is added to the foregroud, sitting on his own set of crystals.
  5. A bit of atmosphere is added using low-level opacity cloud brushes to create mist, and to enhance the cold feeling of the image.
  6. Post-production includes some color adjustments so that all the pieces blend together neatly, as well as the addition of text.
